Battling Barye edges thriller

14 February 2014

BARYE kept up the heat for in-form trainer David Simcock's team as he struck in a mile and a quarter median auction maiden at Lingfield this afternoon.
Owner Anthony Hogarth's son of Archipenko had shown promise over course and distance on debut last month when he was fifth.
An 11/4 shot for his return to the Surrey track, he just managed to pip the favourite Late Night Mark in a thriller.
Jockey Jim Crowley didn't enjoy the smoothest passage aboard Barye as the pair strived to assert down the straight.
But persistence reaped a reward as Simcock's charge fairly rattled through the closing strides and collared Late Night Mark on the line for a short-head success.
