All set for World Cup night

26 March 2014

TRAINER David Simcock will saddle three runners on this Saturday’s ultra-valuable Dubai World Cup card.

Trade Storm, Sheikhzayedroad and Moment In Time are all set for action at Meydan’s glittering climax to the spring carnival.

For the second successive year, Trade Storm will contest the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free, staged on turf over nine furlongs. In 2013, he ran very well to finish fourth – which is also where he came on March 8 in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta.

David is already in Dubai and this morning oversaw the trio's preparatory work at the Meydan track.

Trade Storm exercised over seven and a half furlongs, quickening through the latter stages of the solo work-out.

His trainer said: “That was his last proper stretch before he runs on Saturday and he is ready.”

The six-year-old entire has a good draw in seven and Jamie Spencer will ride.

David will be double-handed in the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup, thanks to Sheikhzayedroad and Moment In Time.

The pair have contrasting draws for the two-miler with Sheikhzayedroad out wide in 13, while the five-year-old mare will emerge from gate four.

Moment In Time worked over seven and a half furlongs this morning, while the five-year-old gelding had a shorter sharper blast.

“I’m happy with them,” said Simcock. “Sheikhzayedroad ran well through the Carnival and has earned his shot. He is a very consistent horse.

“That was Moment In Time’s last proper stretch before she runs on Saturday and I’m hopeful she will be able to handle the step up in distance (to two miles).”
