The Corsican gets off the mark

06 June 2014

THE Corsican gained a first career success when taking a 1m4f maiden at Kempton on Thursday evening.

A son of Galileo, The Corsican was third to the highly-regard Wrangler on debut and stepped up that to win well under Fergus Sweeney.

He was settled towards the front of the pack, relaxing well in behind the leaders.

Sweeney moved up to make his challenge with two furlongs to run and hit the front at the furlong marker.

The Corsican idled a little in the lead but was always doing enough to hold off the odds on favourite Desert Snow by half-a-length.
