Listed victory for Sheikhzayedroad

SHEIKHZAYEDROAD secured a deserved Listed prize when taking Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon.

The son of Dubawi was settled towards the rear by Martin Lane in what was a strongly run race.

Lane was hard at work with three furlongs to run but Sheikhzayedroad kept responding and ran on strongly to lead well inside the final furlong.

The runner-up Gatewood went down fighting but Sheikhzayedroad was too strong, winning by half a length.

David said: “We were a bit worried about the ground but he deserved that as he had run some good races of late.”
