'Bird' flies to another win
17 June 2012
BACKERS of Birdman were singing sweetly after the colt made it back-to-back victories on Friday night when he scored at Chepstow.
The son of Danehill Dancer had opened his account on his second outing two weeks earlier at Brighton.
He encountered a quick surface on that occasion but it was very different ground in south Wales - not that it proved any inconvenience in the 6f novices' event.
In fact, in the hands of jockey Martin Lane, trainer David Simcock's charge seemed to revel in the extremely taxing conditions.
Lane asked Birdman to lay down a challenge inside the final quarter of a mile and the pair found themselves in front with a furlong to travel.
The 11/8 favourite poured it on through the closing stages and was good value for the three and a quarter length triumph.
