Trade Storm flies East for HK Mile

04 December 2014

TRILLIUM Place’s leading globe-trotter Trade Storm ships to Sha Tin tomorrow for the Hong Kong Mile.

In the week in which his trainer David Simcock was named the International Trainer of the Year at the Derby Awards, the six-year-old ‘entire’ is being prepared for the world’s richest turf mile race ($HK23million).

The highlight of his 2014 campaign to date was the victory in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile in Canada. But he also ran a blinder last time out to take third in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

Trade Storm’s year started in Dubai where he was second in a Group 2 and fourth in a Group 1. He was also second in the Strensall Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival.

David said: “Trade Storm will be the stable’s first runner in Hong Kong. Going over there, expectation doesn’t come into the equation but he doesn’t let us down too often.

“He will need to produce a career best and more as those Hong Kong horses are very tough to beat on fast ground.

“We couldn’t have expected any more from him in the Breeders’ Cup and he came back really well from it. He is training well and showing all the right signs ahead of flying out to Hong Kong on Friday.”

Simcock will join his charge next week but is already thinking about the next foreign excursion – the 2015 Dubai Racing Carnival. He plans to have a team of seven to represent him at Meydan over the carnival.

As for that award, David was delighted to receive it but modestly said:  “It’s all down to a team effort.”
