Montaser romps to Ascot win

27 July 2012

MONTASTER looks a smart stayer in the making when winning a 2m handicap at Ascot on Friday afternoon. The son of Rail Link, who runs in the colours of Dr Marwan Koukash, was keen in the early stages but still managed to run out a ready winner under Franny Norton. Once Montaser had settled, Norton allowed him to find his rhythm before making progress along the back straight. He went to the lead with 2f to run and powered clear of the favourite, Western Prize, to win by three and three quarter lengths. It was a second win on the bounce for the three-year-old who won a competitive handicap at Haydock on his last start. Assistant Tom Clover said: “We have been waiting for fast ground for him as he is a horse we have always liked. Two miles is his trip.”
