Classic weekend at HQ for Simcock team
TRAINER David Simcock will run Terror in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas on Sunday.
The Kodiac filly was last seen out when winning in Listed company at Newmarket last autumn.
She was due to reappear in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at the Rowley Mile earlier this month.
But a small hitch briefly delayed her return to action, meaning she goes straight to the one-mile fillies’ Classic without having gone beyond six furlongs before.
David said: “Terror will run in the 1000 Guineas. We would have liked to have started back at seven furlongs (in the Nell Gwyn) but unfortunately she had a setback.
“She is in good order now but there are a lot of imponderables – will she stay a mile is the biggest. We would like it if there is plenty of rain.”
David also has another nice three-year-old prospect to run at the Guineas meeting with Balios set to contest the mile and a quarter Newmarket Stakes.
David holds the colt – a first-time out Kempton maiden winner on his sole start – in high regard. But he has been mulling over what distance to bring his charge back over.
Simcock said: “We weren’t quite sure what route we were going to go down as he is not short of speed.
“He is a very talented horse and has a big future whatever happens on Saturday.
“Whether he is fully ready for this test we will have to wait and see. Inexperience might just get the better of him.”
Fractal, Starboard and Halation all have handicap entries at Headquarters as the Trillium Place team really start to roll.
David assessed: “We have just started to move with the horses and May will be nice and busy. The month will tell us where we stand.”
Group 1 heroine Madame Chiang and sprint star Caspar Netscher are set to return in a fortnight at York’s Dante meeting, while Breton Rock and Trade Storm will come under consideration for the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes, depending on ground.
Longer term, and another stable favourite Sheikhzayedroad has the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom earmarked for his 2015 UK bow.
