Across-the-card-double at Ascot and HQ

08 August 2015

TRAINER David Simcock had winners at both Ascot and Newmarket this afternoon, thanks to Halation and The Cashel Man.

On Shergar Cup Day at the royal racecourse, Halation notched a deserved success in a mile handicap on the round course.

He was given a perfectly-judged hold-up ride by Jamie Spencer, bursting from last to first in a dazzling final flourish.

Halation was anchored at the rear until a quarter of the mile from home when Spencer gave him the office.

The Trillium Place runner hit the front in the final 100 yards, going on to score by half a length at odds of 5/1.

Back at Newmarket, there was a 'home' win for the Simcock team on the July Course where The Cashel Man took a two-mile handicap by five lengths.

The 15/8 joint favourite, ridden by Joe Fanning, was winning for the third time in his last four starts.
