Carnachy on target at Newbury

15 August 2015

CARNACHY made it third time lucky when winning a mile and a quarter maiden at Newbury on Friday.

The Mastercraftsman filly, owned by St Albans Bloodstock, had been second on her two previous starts.

So, she wasn't winning ahead of turn when hitting the target at odds of 5/1 in the hands of jockey Pat Cosgrave.

Having been mid-division for much of the race, trainer David Simcock's charge made sustained progress from three furlongs out.

Handling the soft ground better than the rest, Carnachy led approaching the furlong pole and stayed on well to strike by a length and a quarter.
