New-season buzz at Trillium!

06 April 2016

TRILLIUM Place is never dull at any time in the year. But right now it is busier than ever as David Simcock and his team are working flat out to prepare for the Turf season, which cranks up a notch with next week’s Craven meeting at Newmarket.

David says: “We are progressing nicely. The last two weeks we’ve got some good work into the horses – working them on the Flat gallop. So, overall, fitness-wise the string is coming along.

“I’ll have a couple of maidens to run at Newmarket. The same applies for Newbury.  But it’s a time of year when you have to see what the weather is doing and certainly keep an eye on the ground.

“As the month goes on – and more so into May – we’ll keep taking the wraps off them. The plan is to have a small team for both Chester and York’s big spring meetings.”

David refers to this time of year as a ‘transitional stage’. And indeed the pace is quickening. Not that the winter months have been slow. Far from it.

Trillium Place has been firing in the winners on the all-weather – especially through January – and competing in Meydan at the Dubai World Cup meeting where Sheikhzayedroad was a Group-race runner for the yard. He and The Corsican also gave solid displays on Dubai World Cup night at the end of March.

David adds: “I was delighted to have a winner in Dubai – it’s never easy.  On World Cup night, both of ours ran respectably in their races. We might look at the Yorkshire Cup for Sheikhzayedroad next – or go straight to Ascot with him. With The Corsican, we’ll look at options for him from June onwards.”
