Algometer goes in at Goodwood

ALGOMETER further enhanced his blossoming reputation with a Listed success at Goodwood this afternoon.

Miss Kirsten Rausing's home-bred colt by Archipenko beat Godolphin's Prize Money - the evens favourite - in a battling finish of the Cocked Hat Stakes.

Trainer David Simcock's charge showed plenty of resolve to match his talent, staying on strongly to win by half a length.

The 13/8 success, under jockey Jim Crowley, followed a second-place finish in a Group 3 at Sandown and underlined that the Trillium Place runner is on an upward curve.

He remains in the Derby at Epsom. But David indicated that unless there was plenty of rain in the lead-up to June 4's Classic showdown, it's more likely Algometer will be targeted at the Irish Derby.

It has been a good couple of days at Goodwood for the Simcock string. Yesterday saw  Can't Change It secure a comfortable success in Class 2 handicap staged over seven furlongs.
Jockey Jamie Spencer was aboard for the two-length triumph - the grey gelding's second on the bounce and the fourth of his career.
