Group 3 glory for Breton Rock!

25 June 2016

BRETON Rock made a much deserved return to the winner's enclosure when taking the Group 3 Criterion Stakes at Newmarket.

Owner John Cook's six-year relished the extreme ground conditions as the seven-furlong race was staged in a torrential storm.
So bad was the weather, the field were barely visible for half the race on the July Course.
But when they loomed into sight it was quickly apparent that the David Simcock-trained Breton Rock was going to play a hand at the business end of affairs.
The Bahamian Bounty gelding showed tremendous guts as Adaay came at him as the two powered up the rising ground late on.
Indeed, the television camera angles suggested Adaay may have snatched it at the death.
But the photo proved that Breton Rock had won by a head at odds of 11/4.
It was his first win since the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes in August, 2014. Burt that stat doesn't tell the half of it.
In Breton Rock's previous six starts he had not been outside the first four and this was a thoroughly merited and popular success for the Trillium Place runner.
What a series of results the yard is having. In the last 24 hours or so, David has sent out no less than five winners.
