TRAINER David Simcock has confirmed that the plan is for Lightning Spear to head straight to next month’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot.

The Trillium Place horse proved himself a very classy campaigner when bursting to an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood a week and a half ago.

It was a particularly pleasing triumph for the Simcock team who endured a couple of frustrating days when things didn’t click into place for the five-year-old Pivotal ‘entire’.

David said: “It was a relief to win and I felt the horse very much deserved after nothing had gone right for him in his previous two starts. He is very talented.

“He has come out of the race very well. He will have a little break and head to the Queen Elizabeth II fresh.”

The Group 1 at Ascot will take place on Saturday, October 15.
