Park Stakes win caps great day
11 September 2016
THERE was double delight for trainer David Simcock on St Leger day at Doncaster with Breton Rock and Can't Change It finding the winner's enclosure.
Breton Rock gave Trillium Place its second Group 2 winner inside 24 hours with victory in the Park Stakes.
He followed up the success of Sheikhzayedroad in the Doncaster Cup with a hard-fought triumph in the seven-furlong stakes race.
Jockey Andrea Atzeni worked the oracle aboard the 7/2 chance getting a strong late run out of the John Cook-owned six-year-old.
Breton Rock just collared The Happy Prince right at the death to win by a short head - the second time he has been victorious in Group company this season.
David said: "He's an absolute star, a pleasure to train and gives us and his owner a lot of pleasure.
"I love these old horses - they come good for you. He is so straightforward and very simple.
"The little rain we had at 11 o'clock has made a huge difference as it has loosened the ground. Some horses don't like that but he has enjoyed it."
Simcock was later applauding the ride from jockey Jamie Spencer, who produced Can't Change It to storm home by three parts of a length in the mile handicap.
Spencer showed his expertise in the saddle with a well-timed challenge in which he brought his mount in between horses.
David said: "That was a proper ride. He has to be ridden like that. Jamie knew exactly what he was doing."
