Doctor Sardonicus wins class 2 sprint
15 August 2017
Doctor Sardonicus confirmed his liking for the Chelmsford all-weather track this evening, winning there for the fourth time by taking the five furlong Essex Sprint Handicap.
Under a positive ride by Martin Harley, the six-year-old chestnut gelding broke well from the gate and immediately took up a position sharing the lead. Doctor Sardonicus headed the field with three furlongs remaining and then came under pressure over one furlong out. He subsequently battled to re-take the lead entering the final furlong and ran on well towards the finish to win by one and three quarters of a length.
Doctor Sardonicus, by Medicean (GB) out of Never A Doubt (GB), is trained by David Simcock for owner Charles Wentworth and both were present to witness the gelding's biggest success to date.
