Group 3 success for Desert Encounter

23 September 2017

Desert Encounter burst through the field in the final furlong under Sean Levey to win the Group 3 Legacy Cup Stakes impressively at Newbury this afternoon, making it three-in-a-row for trainer David Simcock who also won the previous two renewals of this race, with The Corsican and Algometer.
From the start of this one mile three furlong event, Desert Encounter was settled at the rear of the field. Sean Levey asked for effort from three furlongs out and the pair worked their way through the field, bursting through the leaders and taking the rail inside the final furlong and staying on well under a challenge to win by a neck at the line.
The five-year-old gelding, by Halling (USA) out of La Chicana (IRE), is owned by Abdulla Al Mansoori and was bred by Tally-Ho Stud.
