Go Lightning!

LIGHTNING Spear has gone globe-trotting this week for a shot at the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile on Sunday.

Jennie Simcock is accompanying the two-time Celebration Mile winner who exercised on the track at Sha Tin this morning.

The six-year-old Pivotal ‘entire’ was last seen out in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day, October, when he finished sixth.

Trainer David Simcock said: “He travelled well, having shipped out last Friday and arrived last Saturday.

“It was his first time on a plane but he took the whole journey very well.

“He had a blow this morning and he seemed in good form.

“We are hoping for a good run. We’re not overly expectant but we’re confident he’ll run his race.

“The ground will be fast side of good, which will be absolutely fine for him. He wouldn’t want it too quick but I don’t believe it is.

“He cantered on the grass today and the ground was ideal. So, in that respect, no problem

“As races go, it is competitive. It looks like the locals hold all the aces, probably.

“We’re drawn one, which you’d have slight reservations about. But at the same time, I probably wouldn’t want to be drawn right out wide.

“But a lot depends on pace of race and how quick they go as to where we sit.”

Simcock has had one runner in Hong Kong before – Trade Storm who finished seventh in the Mile.

He added: “Everybody likes travelling but it’s important. The world is a smaller place and international racing is becoming more and more prominent.”
