Group-race glory in Dubai

02 March 2013

TRADE Storm gave trainer David Simcock a huge international success when winning the Group 2 Zabeel Mile in Dubai this evening. The five-year-old showed significant progression from landing a handicap at Meydan in making it back-to-back triumphs at the venue under Jamie Spencer. What a performance it was, too. In a quite brilliant manner, Trade Storm cut threw the field surging from last to first to score. Spencer indicated that his mount was slower away from the gates than ideal but the jockey opted to leave him alone and find his feet, rather than use him too soon in early pursuit. The slow fractions through the first half-mile didn't look helpful, either and Trade Storm looked to have a whole lot to do upon turning into the straight. With a wall of rivals in front of him Spencer was still sat last approaching three furlongs out - but it was clear he had a ton of horse waiting to pounce as long as the opportunity presented itself. Sure enough, Trade Storm mastered the favourite Musir in a matter of strides just inside the final furlong and looked to come back on the bridle before passing the post with a length and a half in hand. It was a truly dazzling display and underlined just how much this strapping son of Trade Fair - who incidentally looked fantastic - has come forward. Spencer said: "He was very impressive. David has got the key to him and he has improved so much."
