TRAINER David Simcock enjoyed another top-class success, thanks to Spanish Mission's thrilling win in the Jockey Club Derby Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park.
Jockey Jamie Spencer brought the son of Noble Mission from last to first to edge the $1million race by a nose from Pedro Cara.


For much of the mile and a half turf race Spencer was content to bide his time on the Newmarket challenger as A Thread Of Blue cut out the running.
But Spencer began to take closer order towards the latter part of the back straight and came surging off the top bend into the final stages.
Spanish Mission was full of running in the final furlong and a half and locked down into a gripping duel with Pedro Cara.
With the two horses bravely going head-to-head it was Simcock's charge, the 21/10 favourite, who secured victory to build on an already positive campaign in England.
