Derby date for Mohican Heights

03 July 2020

MOHICAN HEIGHTS will represent trainer David Simcock in the Derby at Epsom tomorrow.
The Sun Bloodstock Sarl-owned son of Australia made a pleasing seasonal return last month at Royal Ascot.
He stayed on well to finish third – beaten four lengths – behind Pyledriver in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes.
Mohican Heights has since been prepped to line up in one of the world’s greatest races in which he is drawn high, 15 of 16, and will be partnered again by Andrea Atzeni.
David said: “The owner is very keen to have a go and, with such an open-looking race, I don’t see why not.
“He ran very well at Ascot and will be sharper for that – and probably one day will show his true colours at Ascot.
“He hasn’t run badly at all in a race that wasn’t run to suit him. But he has come out of it well and didn’t have a hard time.
“We know we are rolling the dice slightly – like a lot of others.”

Mohican Heights ran twice as a two-year-old, winning a seven-furlong maiden at Leopardstown and then a mile Listed contest at Salisbury – his first start for the Trillium Place team.
