David updates on Dubai team

30 January 2013

TRAINER David Simcock is back in Newmarket after a stint overseeing the initial stage of his team's campaign at this year's Dubai World Cup Carnival. Glass Office had a satisfactory first start in the desert when fifth of 14 in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial a fortnight ago. Ottoman Empire has run two creditable races and may have finished a lot closer than his eventual fifth last time, if he'd been a bit closer to the earlier pace. Trade Storm was not able to get competitive on his opening outing in the emirate on January 24. David assessed: 'We've had some teething problems in Dubai, which has been a little bit frustrating. The horses have just tended to need their first run. Touch wood, they will all improve.' Glass Office will contest the UAE 2000 Guineas on February 14 with David a little concerned about that the mile trip may just stretch his charge's stamina. Conversely, Stasio could find the seven-furlong distance of the Meydan Classic Trial a touch on the sharp side. The Street Boss colt goes into the race off the back of a comfortable mile maiden at Lingfield last November. Talking of the British all-weather scene, David is content with how his 'home' team have been faring. He added: 'They are finding their place and we have few maidens to come out in February and March.'
