CITY OF YORK got off the mark at the sixth attempt, first time out on turf, when winning the one mile and one furlong novice stakes at Lingfield Park this evening under Darragh Keenan.
The three-year-old gelding pressed the leader from the off until taking the lead over three furlongs out. He was nudged along from two furlongs out and kept on well to win by one and a half lengths and it was particularly pleasing that his owner was present to enjoy the occasion.City Of York, by Cityscape GB out of Primrose Valley GB, is trained by David Simcock for Mr. A M Pickering.
