More joy for Malekat Jamal

27 July 2013

Malekat Jamal maintained her progression with a second week inside a week, landing a seven-furlong fillies' handicap at Newmarket this afternoon (Jul 27).
Saeed Manana's daughter of Dutch Art scored at Redcar last Sunday over a mile. Dropped back in trip and racing under a 6lb penalty today, she showed real heart and desire to secure her third victory in four starts.
Slowly away, trainer David Simcock's charge was held up last in the nine-runner race before being launched with her challenge over a furlong from home.
Malekat Jamal, proven over further, sustained her effort throughout the closing strides, collaring the favourite Ghasabah and the long-time leader Mar Mar to triumph by a neck.
Simcock said: "She is a fit horse, who won six days earlier and we thought we'd take our chance."
Midnight Flower came close to delivering a three-timer on the July Course but found one too good in the £50,000 six-furlong handicap.
